For latex-based Mapei adhesives that haven’t fully cured, warm water and a scrub brush usually work. For cured polyurethane or epoxy, you’ll need Mapei Keralastic Remover or an industrial citrus-based cleaner.

But here’s the catch: never use paint-safe adhesive remover on Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout. I did that once—it etched the surface. Use a grout-specific cleaner instead.

7. Is Mapei waterproofing worth the expense?

For wet areas (showers, pools, exterior decks), yes. Mapei’s Mapelastic AquaDefense or Mapelastic 315 are polymer-modified membranes that outperform cheap liquid coatings.
