At 6:47 on a Tuesday morning in late March, my phone buzzed on the nightstand. The screen said Dominic. Contractors do not call at that hour to compare color charts. They call because water found the one spot nobody wanted it to find.

Roof waterproofing cost is a line item, but the real bill is the second repair. The $1,900 quote would have saved money at first. After the cost of tearing out a new floor, nobody would have called it a deal.
Wood flooring adhesives are not all the same. The polymer formula, the moisture requirements, the open time—all of it is on the data sheet. If the seller cannot show you one, buy from someone who can.

Demand the source, read it, and if the answer is still unclear, call the manufacturer. You are not being paranoid. You are doing the same job we do: checking the substrate before you build on it.
The floor held because the roof was finally fixed, the moisture was checked, the right Mapei wood flooring adhesive was used, and the questions were answered with documents rather than opinions. That is a boring ending. In construction, boring is the best kind.
